I see many, many people aroud who think that autism is just "social awkwardness".

Wrong. If you think that being autistic=being just socially awkward, let me tell you that you didn't understand what autism is at all. You're not even close.

Social awkwardness itself means nothing, and it's not enough to get an autism diagnosis.

Autism is a neurological disorder, that has a lot of symptoms and variants and just classifying it as "social awkwardness" is very wrong, and spreads the false stereotype that everyone who is a little shy/introverted is autistic, or that all autistic people are shy/introverted.

Autism is not simple social awkwardness. I'm not going to write here what autism is, there are plenty of stamps here on dA that explain it very well and also on the web you can find a billion of good descriptions of the real autism, not of the "socially awkward kid"-stereotype.

Inform yourself, before applying the autism label on yourself/somebody, just because you are/that person is socially awkward, or just before getting the wrong idea of what autism is.
